HOUSTON — A Houston woman who was caught smuggling fentanyl into the United States last year has learned her punishment.
Alyssa Marie Maldonado, 40, was initially arrested after trying to sneak drugs across the border at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Port of Entry on March 24, 2024.
When she showed up at the border, she denied having any contraband and lied about why she was in Mexico.
A K-9 alerted toward the back seat of her vehicle, where investigators discovered that her gas tank had been altered.
They found 22 packages of fentanyl that weighed a total of 8.7 kilograms.
