Demi Moore, an actress known for films like “Ghost” and “G.I. Jane,” has spent decades in the entertainment industry. But away from the flashing cameras and blockbuster roles, she embraced a quieter life in Idaho.

A surprising detail about her Idaho home, however, sparked an internet frenzy. In 2020, a photo she shared from inside her house went viral, with social media users fixating on a “weird” design choice in her bathroom. Moore later addressed the buzz with humor, proving she can take a joke just as well as she delivers a performance.
Her connection to this Idaho home goes back decades. In 1988, when her eldest daughter was just 12 days old, Moore and her then-husband, Bruce Willis, decided to leave Los Angeles behind and relocate to Sun Valley, Idaho.
The move was initially Willis’ idea, as he wanted a retreat away from the demands of fame. Moore had never even heard of Sun Valley before visiting, but after experiencing the fresh air and breathtaking mountain views, she quickly fell in love with the area.
What started as a holiday home soon became a permanent residence when their daughter was ready to start school. Over the years, the town became more than just a getaway; it became a place of refuge, simplicity, and community.
In recent years, Moore has split her time between Los Angeles and Idaho, but Sun Valley remains her sanctuary. “You arrive, and you have more room to breathe, literally and figuratively. You’re just like, ‘Ahhh!'” she once shared.
Sun Valley is made up of three connected towns: Ketchum, Bellevue, and Hailey. Moore lives in Hailey, a charming town that immediately felt familiar to her.
With its small main streets, family-owned businesses, and stunning mountain scenery, the area reminded her of her own small-town upbringing.
Despite its rustic charm, Sun Valley also boasts a thriving arts scene, with events like the Gallery Walks connecting local art galleries throughout the year.
One of the area’s most famous past residents was Ernest Hemingway, who both lived and died there. The town exudes a rich history while maintaining a relaxed atmosphere that is refreshingly different from Hollywood. “It’s rustic but still a bit cosmopolitan,” Moore noted.

One of the defining features of Sun Valley is its dramatic seasonal shifts. “They say in Sun Valley it’s the winters that bring people but the summers that keep them,” Moore explained.
Winter sports enthusiasts flock to Sun Valley, a ski destination since the 1930s. The Sun Valley Lodge, a historic resort, serves as a hub for visitors and locals alike, with its elegant yet unpretentious Duchin Lounge and a hallway lined with glamorous photographs from the 1930s.
In the summer, Sun Valley transforms into an outdoor playground. The Hollywood star’s ideal summer day begins with an early morning hike at Adams Gulch before the heat sets in. Local eateries like Nourishme and Aroma provide refreshing post-hike treats, while Bigwood Bread Bakery is a go-to for fresh bread.

For grocery shopping, Moore frequents Atkinsons’, a family-owned store where the next generation grew up alongside her daughters. One of her family’s favorite casual spots is Grumpy’s, a no-frills burger joint known for its long lines and legendary fries.
A perfect summer evening might include attending the Sun Valley Music Festival, where locals gather on blankets and picnic under the open sky while enjoying live orchestral performances. Moore’s property sits alongside a river, providing a serene escape from the outside world.
During the warmer months, she and her family take advantage of the water, whether it’s for swimming in their favorite spot, the “Redneck Riviera,” or enjoying activities like kayaking, river rafting, and fly-fishing. Wildlife is abundant, and it’s not uncommon for the actress to spot a herd of elk in her backyard.
However, her love for Idaho isn’t just about the lifestyle — it’s also about family. Even after her divorce from Willis, the two remained close, and their bond is reflected in their proximity, as Willis and his wife, Emma Heming Willis, lived just a mile away.
In the winter, the families often gather indoors, engaging in fiercely competitive games such as Mexican Train dominoes.
Moore is also an admitted homebody, happily spending her downtime binge-watching British crime dramas. When she does venture out, one of her favorite local treasures is Sun Valley’s hidden hot springs.
However, she remains tight-lipped about their exact locations, preferring to keep some of the area’s magic a mystery. “If people really want it, they have to go and earn it,” she teased.
But while she may have successfully kept some parts of her Idaho retreat a mystery, one unexpected detail about her home was put on full display in July 2020 — thanks to Moore herself.
Taking to Instagram, she shared her excitement about an upcoming project, posting a series of candid photos from inside her house. “Excited to finally share what I’ve been working on! First episode of #DirtyDiana drops Monday, July 13. Trailer in bio 🖤,” she captioned the post.
In the photos Moore posted, she was seated in her bathroom, but it was unlike any bathroom most people had ever seen.

The room featured a plush brown carpet covering the floor, a floral-patterned couch positioned right in front of a wooden vanity, and a small wooden table propped up as a makeshift workstation.
In the background, a large sunken bathtub was visible, sitting beneath a statue, while various personal items, including beauty products and toiletries, were scattered across the counters.
Reactions poured in, with users expressing everything from curiosity to bewilderment. “I meant to share that I have the exact same carpet in my bathroom. Brown shag — bathroom 😂😂😂,” one person joked.
Another added, “Why is there CARPET IN THE BATHROOM???” while a third typed, “Is this your bathroom inspiration?”
A fourth netizen shared, “Carpet in a bathroom? Weird…” while someone else asked, “Why is there a toilet in the living room?” Another person wrote, “We just gonna ignore the bathroom and living room have become one.”
As the internet continued to buzz with jokes and questions about her bathroom, Moore finally addressed the controversy during a July 2020 interview with Seth Meyers.
