Oaxacan Nursing Student Becomes a Lifesaving Hero Through Organ Donation
In a powerful act of compassion and generosity, 20-year-old Rosaura GarcÃa Moreno from Tuxtepec, Oaxaca, gave the gift of life to others—even in death. After suffering a tragic car accident that left her with irreversible brain damage, Rosaura’s grieving parents made a courageous and selfless decision: they authorized the donation of her organs.
Rosaura, a dedicated nursing student at the Universidad del Papaloapan’s Tuxtepec campus, had long aspired to save lives. That dream lived on through her donation.
Surgeons at the High Specialty Medical Unit (UMAE) of the IMSS at Specialty Hospital No. 14 in Veracruz carried out the procedure. Her liver was sent to the Siglo XXI UMAE in Mexico City, while her kidneys and corneas went on to help patients in Veracruz, offering hope and healing to those in need.
Known as a young woman of heart and purpose, Rosaura’s legacy now lives in the lives she touched—proof that even in death, one person can make a difference. A single organ donor can save up to eight lives and improve the quality of life for 50 others. Rosaura GarcÃa Moreno will forever be remembered not just as a nursing student, but as a true angel in white who fulfilled her calling to care for others—until the very end.
