At a Monday morning press conference, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. praised President Donald Trump as the most fearless leader to challenge the pharmaceutical oligarchy. The event marked the signing of an executive order aimed at dramatically lowering prescription drug costs.

Kennedy called the day “extraordinary,” emphasizing that while top Democratic leaders like Bernie Sanders have long promised to tackle soaring drug prices, none have delivered.

“Bernie Sanders made this issue central to his presidential campaigns — vowing to close the gap between U.S. drug prices and Europe’s,” Kennedy said. “But it turned out to be just another empty promise. Politicians make these commitments knowing they’ll never actually act, largely because Congress is heavily influenced by Big Pharma.”

He highlighted the pharmaceutical industry’s overwhelming lobbying power, noting it spends three times more than any other sector to sway lawmakers.

“This issue was considered radioactive — no one wanted to touch it because they knew Congress would block it. But now, we have a president who keeps his word and has the courage to act,” Kennedy stated. Unlike many politicians, Trump “can’t be bought” and is boldly standing up for everyday Americans.

Kennedy lauded Trump for taking on the powerful “oligarchs,” saying, “There has never been a president more willing to stand up to the oligarchs than Donald Trump.” He expressed pride in the president’s leadership and bravery.

Reflecting on the impact of the executive order, Kennedy shared a personal moment: “I have kids who are big Bernie Sanders supporters. When I told them this was finally happening, they had tears in their eyes — they thought it would never come in their lifetime. But now, we have a president fighting for the American people.”

The announcement comes just after Trump previewed the order on Sunday, promising prescription drug prices would be slashed by 30% to 80% almost immediately.
