Nearly a year after a Texas family of four vanished during their journey to Alaska, heartbreaking answers have finally surfaced. On May 28, 2025, Alaska State Troopers confirmed the recovery of the family’s missing boat along with human remains submerged in Kachemak Bay.
The family disappeared in August 2024 while embarking on a cross-country adventure. With no leads for months, the case took a dramatic turn in April 2025 when expert teams from Support Vessels of Alaska, Vision Subsea, and Benthic Geoscience Inc. volunteered their advanced underwater scanning technology to aid the search.
Thanks to this cutting-edge equipment, divers located the sunken vessel nearly 180 feet beneath the bay’s surface.
Between May 27 and May 28, divers recovered three sets of human remains inside the boat. These remains have been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for identification and autopsy.
One family member remains missing, and efforts to locate them continue.
Authorities have withheld the names of the deceased pending positive identification. This somber recovery marks a turning point in a case that captured national attention and haunted the community for months.
Officials expressed deep gratitude for the volunteer crews whose expertise and dedication brought long-awaited closure to the mystery.
The cause of the boat’s sinking remains under investigation as the search for answers presses on.
