Country Legend Lorrie Morgan Mourns the Loss of Husband Randy White at 72

Country music icon Lorrie Morgan, 65, is facing profound heartbreak as she mourns the loss of her beloved husband, Randy White, who passed away at the age of 72. The couple shared over a decade of marriage, and White had been by Morgan’s side for 17 cherished years.

White’s passing comes just weeks after Morgan postponed several performances earlier this year to tend to pressing family matters. In a statement released by her manager, Tony Conway, it was revealed that White had been diagnosed with mouth cancer in 2024. He passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, June 1, 2025.

Morgan took to Facebook to share the devastating news with her fans, describing White as her “champion” and her “rock.” In her heartfelt tribute, she remembered him as a kind, loving man whose presence was a true gift in her life.

On the same platform, Lorrie Morgan’s son and Randy White’s stepson, Jesse Keith Whitley, shared a heartfelt tribute to the man he came to love as a father. Writing from White’s hospice room, Whitley expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering love and acceptance White showed him and his sister over the years.

He recalled White’s quiet strength and selfless acts—how he never hesitated to lend a hand, even in the darkest hours. “He showed up without judgment,” Whitley wrote, remembering times when White would pick him up in the middle of the night, even from jail, always with compassion and without anger. “He treated us as his own and never once made us feel like anything less.”

Whitley also reflected on the profound spiritual impact White had on his life, crediting him with helping him rediscover his faith. Despite their different upbringings, Whitley said White’s quiet strength and unwavering compassion left a lasting mark on his heart.

He described White as “the most compassionate person to ever bless our lives,” praising his deep devotion to Morgan and the family they built together. In his tribute, Whitley honored not just a stepfather, but a man who lived with grace, empathy, and unconditional love.

Whitley concluded his message with a deeply heartfelt farewell, writing:
“We will miss you always and forever, and our hearts are shattered in losing you. But you have fought one helluva fight, RanMan! Rest easy, say hello to everyone, and love on Weezy [sic].”

His words reflect both the pain of loss and the enduring love and respect he held for the man who became such a meaningful part of their family.

In the weeks leading up to Randy White’s passing, Lorrie Morgan’s touring schedule shifted to prioritize his medical needs.

Earlier this year, Morgan made the difficult decision to cancel several planned appearances and concerts, as reported in April, due to White’s ongoing battle with mouth cancer. At one point, he was hospitalized in Middle Tennessee and later readmitted for further treatment, according to statements from Morgan’s team.

Throughout this challenging time, the couple quietly requested privacy and continued support from fans and loved ones. Morgan’s ongoing tour with the legendary country group Alabama overlapped with this difficult period. To accommodate her absence, fellow country star Pam Tillis stepped in temporarily to fill Morgan’s spot on the tour.

Pam Tillis, known for hits like “Maybe It Was Memphis” and “Shake The Sugar Tree,” has a long history of collaboration with Lorrie Morgan. The two country stars recorded several memorable duets together, including “I Am A Woman” and “I Know What You Did Last Night.” Most recently, they appeared side-by-side in the 2024 special CMT Giants: Alabama, celebrating the legendary band’s enduring legacy.

Since joining the Grand Ole Opry in 1984 as its youngest member, Lorrie Morgan has remained a beloved figure in country music. Born in Nashville, Morgan’s career boasts timeless hits such as “Except for Monday” and “What Part of No,” songs that continue to resonate with fans across generations.

In April 2024, Morgan courageously shared the difficult news of Randy White’s cancer diagnosis on Facebook:
“I asked my team to release this information today: Opry Star’s Husband Undergoing Cancer Treatment… We deeply appreciate the prayers and well wishes, and for continued support and privacy as we focus on Randy’s health and on our family at this time.”

Randy White, a retired businessman from Mount Juliet, Tennessee, married Morgan on September 15, 2010, in an intimate beachside ceremony. At the time, he was running a private landscape and property design business and was a devoted father to his four children. The couple made their home just outside of Nashville, building a life together grounded in love and family.

Lorrie Morgan has been married six times, with Randy White marking her first marriage outside the music industry. Her first marriage was to Ron Gaddis, a bandmate of country legend George Jones. They married in 1979 and had a daughter, Morgan Anastasia, before divorcing in 1981. In 1986, she wed fellow country artist Keith Whitley, whose life was tragically cut short in 1989 due to alcohol intoxication.

From 1991 to 1993, Morgan was married to Brad Thompson, a bus driver for Clint Black. She then married singer-songwriter Jon Randall in 1996, with their marriage ending in 1999. Her fifth marriage was to singer Sammy Kershaw, lasting from 2001 to 2007.

In a poignant Facebook post from December 2024, Morgan reflected on a family photo with White, writing:
“3 years ago. A healthy Ran at Christmas time. He is making some progress. I miss us there. We are strong and he is determined. I love you RanRan. Merry Christmas.”

Morgan remained active in her career despite the personal challenges. In February 2025, she promoted her upcoming tour with The Alabama Band, posting on Instagram:
“ON SALE NOW! Join me with @TheAlabamaBand at @FootprintCNTR this April 17 in Phoenix, AZ! Get tickets before it’s too late, and we can’t wait to see you at the show.”

However, White’s hospitalization prevented him from attending these events. On May 17, 2025, Morgan was still scheduled to perform at the Grand Ole Opry House, maintaining her musical presence by recording and working on new projects throughout this difficult time.

Her most recent album, Dead Girl Walking, was released by Cleopatra Records on June 28, 2024. Featuring ten tracks, it was her first fully original album since 2016. The project was especially emotional, created amid the loss of her longtime producer and close friend, Richard Landis.

In an interview released early in 2024, Morgan opened up about the challenges she faced while recording Dead Girl Walking, especially in the wake of losing her longtime producer and close friend, Richard Landis.

“It’s not a fun thing losing your friends in this industry. Richard and I made my musical career,” she shared. “He was just a big instrumental—instrumentally played a huge part in how I sang, how I found my voice. The album was just put on hold until I figured out what I wanted to do.”

Morgan explained how deeply involved Landis was in shaping the album’s vision. “Richard had talked us through what his plan was with every song—how it was going to be. So, we knew the direction we wanted to take the album in. It was just not having him there. You know? So, it took longer. The label got impatient, trying to get me out to L.A.”

During this period, officials remained tight-lipped about Randy White’s health, and Morgan did not specify when she might return to touring.
