Amy Schumer humorously claimed that John Cena was “actually inside her” while shooting their steamy scene in the 2015 comedy Trainwreck. In the film, Schumer plays a commitment-phobic woman who unexpectedly falls for Cena’s character, Steven — a fitness-obsessed gym rat with an impressive physique.
Reflecting on Cena’s chiseled body, Schumer once joked, “That butt is like a whole universe… It’s not even human. It felt like a refrigerator was on top of me.” She also poked fun at her own performance during the scene, admitting, “I think it was probably tougher for him. He actually had to do something, while I just did what I normally do during sex — just lay there.”
John Cena openly acknowledged the awkwardness of filming the scene during a 2015 interview on Conan, saying, “They wanted it to be awkward, so we delivered.” Later, on Club Shay Shay, he praised Amy Schumer for creating a comfortable atmosphere on set but didn’t shy away from the less-than-romantic reality of shooting intimate moments.
“Catering was right there, the sound tent was right there… It was really embarrassing,” Cena confessed, painting a humorous picture of how far from steamy the experience actually was.
