Former President Joe Biden has been dealt a heartbreaking blow: he’s been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has already spread to his bones.
Now, for the first time since the news broke, Donald Trump is speaking out — offering words of support in a moment that’s transcending politics.
A Devastating Diagnosis
After years of political clashes and personal jabs, Sunday’s somber announcement marks a humanizing moment in the long-standing rivalry between Biden and Trump.
On May 18, Biden’s office confirmed the 82-year-old former president is battling stage 9 prostate cancer with metastasis to the bone — a serious and advanced condition.
“Last week, President Joe Biden was evaluated for a newly discovered prostate nodule after experiencing increased urinary symptoms. On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, classified as Gleason score 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone,” the statement read.
Despite the severity, there is a glimmer of hope. The cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which opens the door for more effective treatments.
“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, allowing for effective management. The President and his family are currently exploring treatment options with his medical team.”
Trump Breaks His Silence
Biden’s health had already been under public scrutiny, especially during his time in office and his brief 2024 reelection campaign. After a challenging debate performance against Donald Trump and rising concerns about his mental sharpness, Biden withdrew from the race just three months before Election Day, handing the reins to Vice President Kamala Harris.
Now, as news of his cancer diagnosis dominates headlines, Donald Trump has emerged with an unexpectedly compassionate message.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump wrote:
“Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”
Messages of Support
Vice President Kamala Harris, who took over the Democratic ticket after Biden’s withdrawal, also shared her heartfelt support.
“Doug and I are saddened to learn of President Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis. We are keeping him, Dr. Biden, and their entire family in our hearts and prayers during this time,” Harris wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“Joe is a fighter — and I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership. We are hopeful for a full and speedy recovery.”
A Lifelong Fight
This isn’t Biden’s first health battle. In 2023, while still serving as president, he underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor. Prior to that, he had been treated for skin cancer.
Cancer is also a deeply personal cause for Biden. His eldest son, Beau, died from a brain tumor in 2015 — a loss that continues to fuel his dedication to cancer research and advocacy.
Despite this daunting new challenge, Joe Biden remains, as many have described him, a fighter.
