U.S. Cardinal Robert Prevost Makes History After Becoming First American Pope

Robert Prevost was just named the latest successor of Pope Francis after two days of voting inside the Sistine Chapel.

 

While many couldn’t believe that the new Pope would be elected so quickly, they were happy to witness white smoke coming out of the chimneys, clearly marking the arrival of the new Pope.

The pontiff made headlines as the first US-born Pope to ever be elected in history. He will be named Pope Leo XIV and is the 267th Holy Father.

He will be the religious leader of Catholics around the globe. His name was shared after Cardinal Mamberti uttered the terms, ‘Habemus Papam which is the Latin words for ‘We have a Pope!’

President Trump did not waste any further time and was the first to call him up and congratulate him on taking office.

He also shared how America is so proud to have him be the leader for millions of Catholic worshippers. Other leaders from different parts of the globe also similarly congratulated the 69-year-old. He shared how he looks forward to meeting Pope Leo in a post that was published through the president’s social media account on Truth Social.
