A Doctor’s Speculations

On May 5, 2025, stars attended the Met Gala in celebration of Black history, appearing slimmer than before. A doctor has since speculated that five of the celebrities may be using Ozempic to lose weight.

Dr. Gaurav Bharti, a board-certified plastic surgeon, said, “What stood out across the board this year was the trend toward a lean, elegant, and natural-looking physique.” He added, “It’s clearly the trending aesthetic at the moment. It’s likely that many in Hollywood are using Ozempic, or similar GLP-1 agents, even in a microdose format.”

Based solely on their recent event photos, doctors have speculated which celebrities may have turned to the medication. Here’s what professionals have said and what we know about these stars’ weight loss journeys.

Mindy Kaling

Reports suggested that Mindy Kaling may have used Ozempic for weight loss, as she appeared significantly leaner at the Met. However, in May 2023, the then-43-year-old shared that she had committed to a fitness journey. She explained that her dedication to health had boosted her confidence.

Speaking about her experience, the actress said, “I’m feeling really confident in my body these days, which is not something that I’ve been able to say for my whole life, unfortunately,” adding, “I feel great.”

The “Never Have I Ever” creator observed that people were intrigued by the changes in her body, which she found flattering. Still, she admitted it could be overwhelming, so she chooses to ignore some of the attention. She said, “The truth is that I spend so much time and energy trying to be healthy.”

Kaling maintains her health by running and hiking, logging about 20 miles of activity each week. She also focuses on weightlifting with her trainer. As someone who enjoys dining out and trying new dishes, she practices moderation to support her fitness routine.

The producer and writer, born on June 24, 1979, acknowledged that this commitment is substantial, especially while parenting her daughter, Katherine “Kit” Swati, and her son, Spencer Avu.

“It’s hard with two kids that I wake up really early and I fit it in — and I basically live in workout clothes so I can get it in, get an extra mile in,” the actress revealed. She added, “I just tell myself I have to do basically 20 miles a week of either hiking or running. And so that’s been incredibly helpful to me.”

In the same year, she reported losing 40 lbs., attributing the change to physical exercise. She said her routine included running 20 miles weekly and lifting weights with her trainer. Bharti speculated, “It’s likely that Mindy has incorporated agents like Ozempic into her routine to prepare for the Met Gala [as she] showed a noticeable transformation since her last major public appearances.”

However, Kaling previously emphasized that her new figure results from intense workouts, “I wish there was something more juicy or more dynamic about the way that I’ve lost a little bit of weight, but that’s the way I’ve done it.”

In 2022, she shared that her success came not only from physical efforts but from a mental shift. In May of that year, she said, “I’ve tried really hard to let go of this idea of losing weight for vanity reasons and really trying to think of how I can be healthy.”

She added, “And for me, healthy is working out, moving my body a lot, keeping hydrated, and then not having negative connotations around working out and making me feel like if I don’t do this, then I won’t be something else. And that’s taken a long time to kind of shed those old ideas of working out.”

Kaling explained that fitness has been important to her since her early twenties, but she no longer views exercise as a form of punishment. She recalled being overly rigid about her workouts when she was younger.

“It was like 45 minutes on the treadmill, seven minute [sic] mile, it needed to be punishing, I needed to hate it,” she said. In May 2024, the author and screenwriter discussed her diet, workout routine, and the value of prioritizing health and body positivity.

The “Mindy Project” alum said she feels her best when she hits her exercise goals, “I think that if I can get in about 15 to 20 miles of walking a week, I have mental clarity, I feel like I get better sleep at night…So for me, that’s always been key.”

Her favorite walking shoes are Hoka sneakers, which she loves and finds very comfortable for the shape of her foot. Though she used to run, she noted that it required showering immediately afterward.

However, with her tight schedule, she explained, “I can’t be taking five showers a day,” so she tries to squeeze in walks throughout the day. She often takes walks while on phone calls.

Kaling listens to music and typically completes three to five miles of walking and movement each day. The actress also includes strength training in her fitness regime. As a child, she recalled hearing, “‘When you get older, you lose muscle mass. You need to start lifting.'”

At the time, the focus was on being skinny, but her perspective on fitness has since changed. Her fitness focus now centers on strength training, which she now recognizes as essential.

Regarding her diet, she said she’s learned what works for her—such as eating more leafy greens, minimizing red meat and dairy. She also uses an eating plan to stay on track, especially during stressful times when she tends to make unhealthy choices.

Still, she admits her healthy eating plan doesn’t always go smoothly. She called herself a “work in progress,” and added, “Sometimes I’m better at it than other times, but now I’m way more motivated [to eat healthy] because I have kids.”

Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman arrived at the Met wearing a black, backless gown. Addressing Ozempic rumors about the actress, Bharti noted that the 57-year-old has maintained her “signature slim figure for years.”

He added, “It’s likely that medications like Ozempic, paired with lifestyle and dietary changes, are playing a role here.” The doctor continued, “Use of these agents in a sustainable fashion can lead to amazing transformations that are long-term, sustainable and look elegant.”

Kidman previously spoke about her fitness in 2013, sharing that health is a top priority for her. She explained, “If you don’t have your health, you’ve got nothing. So that comes first.”

Balancing fitness with her responsibilities—including two little children, a husband, and work—she said, “I do yoga, and I run, and I meditate. I take really good care of myself and I eat well.”

However, she acknowledged being realistic about indulgences. “I go out on the tour bus [with Keith]. There’s a lot of junk food on the bus…I’m just not someone that believes in denial,” she said. Kidman believes in balance, aiming for an “80 percent healthy” lifestyle.

She also stays fit by running, a habit from childhood. Coming from a family of marathon runners, she shared how her father used to get them up early to run laps.

She recalled being dragged out of bed by her father, and he’d make them run “laps of the oval.” The actress shared, “I just put my music on and off I go. I go into the woods and that’s why I love living in Nashville. And in Sydney you’ve got the beach, which is absolutely beautiful to run on.”

When a fan from Dallas, Texas, asked about her quirks, Kidman revealed her and her husband Keith Urban’s love for coffee. She added that she enjoys the “foam more than the coffee” and orders cappuccinos asking that they, “‘make it all foam and very little coffee.’ They know me now at the Starbucks in Nashville.”

Nicole Scherzinger

Nicole Scherzinger wore a shimmering pinstripe gown by Prabal Gurung to match the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme. Observers questioned whether she had “Ozempic face,” a term coined by Dr. Paul Jarrod Frank, a cosmetic and celebrity dermatologist, to describe facial changes from rapid weight loss.

The term refers to the lines, wrinkles, sunken eyes, and sagging skin caused by sudden and drastic weight loss. Dr. Jimmy Sung, a New York plastic surgeon, commented, “Nicole was able to achieve a healthy weight loss ahead of the Met, likely with the help of GPL-1.”

Sung explained that her smooth transition was aided by her dark skin, which contains more fat and collagen and may have prevented a deflated appearance that other users experience.

In 2023, Scherzinger discussed her fitness routine, contradicting rumors. She stated that she enjoys switching exercises but was then focused on HIIT workouts, especially those involving cardio and weights.

The star mentioned trying various workouts like SoulCycle, climbing, boxing, and dance cardio to keep her body guessing. Her routine includes treadmill sessions, weight circuits, and more cardio. She said, “I feel like I get more results that way.”

Her usual schedule involves working out three to six times a week, though she occasionally opts for long outdoor walks. “You can’t grind all the time, you need that balance,” she emphasized.

Despite her dedication, Scherzinger admitted that food is her “love language.” She added, “I’m not on the grind as much with my workouts, so I’m intermittent fasting.” The singer starts her day with liquids like Vadham’s Mint Melody Green tea or their Turmeric Spiced Herbal blend, and typically has breakfast for lunch.

Her breakfast usually includes eggs, bread, smoked salmon or ham, sliced cherry tomatoes, and avocado. When snacking, she prefers raw almonds, frozen fruit, and smoothies made with oat milk and turmeric for its anti-inflammatory effects.

If craving something savory, she turns to salt and vinegar potato chips or Cheetos. Her meals include salads with protein and slow-releasing carbs. At home, she keeps things simple with meals like chicken or fish paired with rice and vegetables, or gluten-free pasta.

To end meals, she enjoys desserts—especially those with cream cheese icing. “I love red velvet cake with cream cheese icing; carrot cake with cream cheese icing…” she said, adding, “I love muffins and cakes.”

To enjoy sweets without excess sugar and fat, she chooses dark chocolate, particularly with almonds and sea salt. After dessert, she usually drinks herbal tea.

In August 2022 and April 2024, she shared workout videos on Instagram. In the second, she was lifting weights, using a bench, and exercising with a kettlebell.

Vera Wang

Experts expressed concern over Vera Wang’s appearance at the Met, noting sagging skin, visible neck bones, and droopy eyes. Commenting on the 75-year-old, Bharti said, “Vera Wang has historically been fairly lean, but does look even slimmer compared to her past photos.”
