Breaking: Steve Bannon Teases Possibility of “Trump 2028” Presidency—Despite Constitutional Limits
In a bold and controversial claim, former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon insists that a “Trump 2028” presidency isn’t just political fantasy—it’s a real possibility.
Bannon revealed that Donald Trump and his inner circle are actively exploring “many different alternatives” for a potential third run at the presidency, even though the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution clearly limits any individual to two terms in office.
Speaking on the Apocalypse Now? podcast, Bannon went so far as to predict that Trump would be “in the White House signing executive orders” on January 20, 2029. In a separate interview with NewsNation, he doubled down: “We have many different alternatives to make sure President Trump… is the President of the United States,” adding that plans would be unveiled gradually.
Fueling the speculation is the appearance of unofficial “Trump 2028” merchandise featuring provocative slogans like “Rewrite the Rules”—a potential nod to challenging or bypassing the constitutional two-term limit. The 22nd Amendment, ratified in 1951 following Franklin D. Roosevelt’s four terms, explicitly prevents a third presidential term.
Despite Bannon’s confidence, legal scholars remain firm: a third term is currently unconstitutional. Law professor Danny Karon outlined three hypothetical—but legally fraught—workarounds to LADbible: Trump could serve as vice president and ascend to the presidency, run as VP under an ally such as JD Vance, or attempt to amend the Constitution itself. Each route, however, is riddled with political and legal obstacles.
Trump himself hasn’t entirely dismissed the idea. In a 2024 interview with TIME, he acknowledged that “loopholes have been discussed,” but added, “I don’t believe in using loopholes.” He also told NBC, “A lot of people want me to do it,” referring to a third term, emphasizing that he “wasn’t joking.”
For now, Trump remains focused on the 2024 election. Still, if Bannon’s statements are any indication, the conversation around “Trump 2028” is already taking shape.
