Sleepover Turns Tragic: Georgia Boy Severely Burned in Cruel Prank, but Love Pours In from Across the Nation
What was supposed to be a joyful New Year’s sleepover turned into a life-altering nightmare for 12-year-old Trey West of Tifton, Georgia. As he slept at a friend’s house, a cruel prank changed everything—scalding hot water was poured on his face, leaving him with devastating second-degree burns on his cheeks and forehead.
🔥 A Moment of Fun Turned Horror
Trey had joined three other boys, ages 12 to 15, for a sleepover to ring in the new year. But while he was sleeping, one of them shockingly poured boiling water over his face.
His mother, Tiffany West, recalls the moment she got the call that no parent ever wants to receive.
“I was just mad, hurt, in shock… I was seeing red. I just wanted to get him help,” she said.
Trey was immediately rushed to a burn center in Augusta, where surgeons began emergency treatment. Doctors say his physical wounds could take up to two weeks to heal—but the emotional scars may linger much longer.
💔 “He’s Numb…”
Perhaps even more painful than the burns is Trey’s emotional state. According to his aunt, Nachelle Austile, Trey has withdrawn completely.
“I always ask him if he’s mad or sad… he just doesn’t have any emotion about it,” she said.
His mother added quietly, “He’s numb.”
⚖️ Accountability in Progress
All three boys involved in the incident were arrested but later released to their families. Court proceedings are expected in the coming weeks, and the case has raised serious questions about the dangerous consequences of so-called “pranks” among teens.
❤️ A Community’s Love Shines Bright
Amid the heartbreak, something beautiful has emerged—an overwhelming wave of support for Trey and his family. Donations, care packages, and kind messages have poured in from all over the country.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Tiffany wrote:
“It brings tears to my eyes to know so many people care for me & my son… We are not alone.”
She added:
“I drop to my knees every day thanking God that my baby is still here… because it could have been worse.”
🌟 Signs of Strength and Healing
Now back home, Trey is showing signs of physical recovery. His mom recently shared an inspiring update:
“He may be able to return to school next week after his follow-up. He’s in good spirits—even sleeping in his own bed again.”
She also posted a touching video of Trey dancing and smiling with his baby sister, simply captioned:
“He’s healing beautifully. Nobody but God.”
