This region, roughly 200 miles southwest of Reno, lies within the Nevada Seismic Belt, near the notorious Pleasant Valley Fault. These fault lines are known for their potential to unleash major earthquakes, with experts warning that a quake as strong as magnitude 7.7 could occur here.
