As wildfires rage through Southern California, hundreds of animals are finding refuge and care thanks to dedicated humane organizations. From tiny cats and loyal dogs to majestic horses—and even a colorful parrot named Ducky—these rescued animals are being given a second chance amid the chaos.

Many pets are temporarily boarded while their families take shelter in evacuation centers, while others receive urgent treatment for burns, dehydration, and smoke inhalation.

Pasadena Humane has opened its doors to over 400 animals, including a sweet pony, while the Los Angeles Equestrian Center shelters between 200 and 300 horses—and a surprising 200-pound pig. Though generous donations have flooded in, space is running thin, and shelters are urgently calling for monetary support to continue their lifesaving work.Amid the ongoing rescue efforts, heartwarming reunions between pets and their owners offer a beacon of hope. “Watching families come back together feels like a powerful step forward,” said Ana Bustilloz of spcaLA.Amid the ongoing rescue efforts, heartwarming reunions between pets and their owners offer a beacon of hope. “Watching families come back together feels like a powerful step forward,” said Ana Bustilloz of spcaLA.
