Back in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made headlines when they stepped down as working members of the royal family. While Queen Elizabeth II allowed them to retain their titles—His and Her Royal Highness (HRH)—they were instructed not to use them publicly, given their new roles outside royal duties.
Now, five years later, Meghan Markle has found herself at the center of fresh controversy after allegedly signing a personal gift with “HRH.” The gift—a jar of jam from her American Riviera Orchard brand—was sent privately to a friend, entrepreneur and podcast host Jamie Kern Lima.
While the gift was intended as a private gesture, it quickly sparked debate when Kern Lima shared it, along with the handwritten card bearing “HRH,” on her podcast. Critics argue that even in a private context, using the title may blur the lines of royal protocol—especially when private moments go public.
According to Page Six, the palace has taken note of the incident, reigniting questions about whether more formal steps could be taken—especially if Prince William ascends the throne with plans to redefine royal boundaries.
Now, multiple royal insiders are reporting that Prince William is “furious” and determined to formally strip Meghan Markle of her HRH title once he ascends the throne.
“King Charles might be willing to tolerate it, but William won’t,” one insider revealed. “He loathes and despises Harry and Meghan with every bone in his body. He believes they’ve betrayed everything the monarchy stands for—and the fact that they continue to use their royal status, even subtly, infuriates him.”
Adding to the tension, a close friend of Prince William claimed, “Charles has completely lost control.” The source went further, suggesting that Harry and Meghan “seem to have every intention of making his final years a misery.”
The growing backlash comes amid renewed scrutiny over Meghan’s recent use of her royal title in a personal gift, a move that many see as crossing a line—especially in the eyes of the future king.
According to William’s friend, the timing of Meghan’s use of her HRH title speaks volumes. “It exposes just how weak and enfeebled Charles has become,” the source said. “Meghan knows he won’t act. But there’s no way King William will tolerate this. The titles will be removed—one way or another. A way will be found.”
The controversy has even made its way into mainstream media discussions. In the video below, the hosts of The View weigh in on Meghan’s decision to use the HRH title and debate whether she should be allowed to use it at all.
